Travel Guide: Nakasendo Trail

I created a travel guide for the Nakasendo Trail that captures the essence of this historic route through thoughtful design and engaging visuals. The goal was to develop a cohesive aesthetic that blends tradition with modern usability, enhancing both the print and digital experience for travelers.

Through a detailed design process, I established a visual direction that reflects the trail’s rich history while maintaining a fresh, accessible feel. This informed the creation of custom illustrations—hand-drawn maps and spot illustrations that highlight key post towns and landmarks. The color palette draws from natural landscapes and traditional Japanese motifs, while the typography balances heritage-inspired details with contemporary readability.

To bring the guide to life across multiple formats, I designed a structured yet inviting layout, incorporating infographics, wayfinding elements, and curated content sections. Whether in print or digital form, the guide provides an engaging and intuitive experience, ensuring travelers can navigate the Nakasendo Trail with ease while immersing themselves in its history and beauty.
